I can tell it is January.

I feeling so blah. I can't see the blue in the sky, or the sun. January just finally caught up to me since I was gone for the beginning of it and crazy busy the few weeks after I got back. Luckily for me, February always helps me get through the winter months. My b-day is the first week, and should be great as long as my husband puts a little effort into making me feel special that day. (help from a sister, like ideas of what he could do/ get me, is not out of the question) The next week in Valentines day, an excuse for me and my hubby to spend quality time together, something I always enjoy. And the we are more then half way done with Feb. Hopefully March isn't too over cast, like Jan has been, and me and the kids can get out and feel the sun on our faces. Either way...... the best is yet to be. :-)

  1. I hate January too. I'm only getting through it because of snowboarding. I LOVE the spring and I start getting exited for it WAY before it is here and I get frustrated.

  2. Even though a storm would clear the air which we desperately need, the weather has been rather mild. Last year was like this too. I wonder if this is the new climate change for Utah. I've always thought of January as very stormy although we often hear of the January thaw and we're definitely having one.

  3. I, personally, love January. After all the craziness of the end of November and all of December (whether or not one buys into the "holiday season" in a big way, it gets its licks in!) I am glad for the short quiet days and long, dark nights. The whole earth is saying "rest..." and finally one can.

February brings the first hints of the lengthening days, bright blossoms of daffodils or narcissus forced to an early bloom or cut in a vase, in honor of the lengthening days.... and the feel of dirt under the fingernails once again as the seeds are started indoors.

By March, I am transplanting, shuffling and squeezing growing seedlings in everywhere, making room for more seed flats and anxiously awaiting thawed ground and sufficiently warm soil for early seeding and soon hardening off and transplanting.

By April, I am scanning the earth for sprouts, hardening off seedlings and looking forward to the first early lettuces, spinach and soon to come market days!

It's all a cycle and the winter months hold the opportunity for much needed rest.

  4. I would rest, my body wants to rest all day every day, but my kids don't want to and their body want to run around and go crazy. But today we got some sun shiine and you can see the blue in the sky, so we will go out after nap and sock up the great outdoors for bit.

  5. Halley, you were not around in WI, but that "kids don't want to rest" coupled with inclement weather was what caused me to invent "running a muck." The idea was to put on upbeat music (I used Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass) and everyone had to keep moving as much and as fast as they could until the song ended. We ran around the coffee table, through the rooms, up stairs and down, flailing arms and turning and bending... sometimes colliding because we were not all moving the same way at once. I found it revved me up and (almost) tired out the kids.

  7. your mom and i are on the same wave length. we call it dance party. i just posted about it on my blog! it really helps the kids get the energy out in a good way instead of beating on each other instead ;)

Also i am spoiled here.. today was really cold at 40degrees but most of january has been 60-75 here. I hope that utah warms up for easter this year though i dont think i could enjoy one of those late snow storms!
